Performance Metals Premium Aluminum Sacrificial AnodesAll metals
immersed in an electrolyte, like sea water, produce an electrical
current. When two dissimilar metals are in contact they
produce a galvanic cell (like a battery), with the less
noble metal (like Aluminum or Zinc) forming the anode and
the more noble metal (such as Stainless Steel) forming the
cathode. The anode sacrifices itself by corroding, or giving
up metal to protect the cathode - hence the term
sacrificial anode. Why Are Performance Metals Premium Anodes Better?Performance Metals anodes
are made from Aluminum/Indium alloy. This Aluminum/Indium alloy is
more active, providing better protection than traditional Zincs. Aluminum
anodes are essential for Mercury stern drives as Zinc does
not provide sufficient protection. Mercury recommends aluminum anodes for
both salt and freshwater on their stern drives. Aluminum
anodes last 40 percent longer than zinc anodes. Plus,
Aluminum anodes self-clean in fresh water while Zinc anodes form
a coating that limits their effectiveness within a few months.
Performance Metals premium aluminum anodes include the required hardware
for mounting. Performance Metals Aluminum Anode - Cavitiation Plate Alpha
